TIGERMILK: secret guest (Night Slugs), Dj Uniique, Obey City b2b Doctor Jeep, Kuato, The Orator at 70 N 6th St [10PM/$10-15]
A new party from Kuato (of Partyguy Records) and Nick Concklin aka The Orator designed to highlight the connections between many genres of bass music (much like this mailing list!). Secret Night Slugs headliner is just the cherry on top (hint – it’s probably the one who lives in NYC). Ferocious jersey club/ghettotech from DJ Uniique should be a treat; Doctor Jeep is one of our favorite bass music dj/producers (check his recent mixpak radio session), and he’s going b2b with another longtime fav, Obey City. Plus sets from the founders – who clearly know Brooklyn bass music to have put together such a great lineup. Could this be the bass music party we’ve been waiting for?

Percussion Lab x Turrbotax: Archie Pelago, Cromie & Sage Caswell (LA), Braille, Rem Koolhaus, Nooka Jones, C-Sick at Cameo Gallery [11PM/$7-10]
Longtime allies Percussion Lab and Turrbotax hosting Archie Pelago, our favorite DJ/cello/sax trio, and West Coast house producers Cromie and Sage Caswell, who just put out the first record on Rem Koolhaus’s PEACH label. Cromie, Sage and the Archie boys were all regulars of the ‘tax back in the Cove era, so you know it’s a family affair. Plus sets from PercLab’s Braille and Nooka Jones, and Turrbo residents C-Sick and Rem Koolhaus.

Everyone playing has released tracks on TUBA – J-Kenzo is coming in from UK to headline, plus super talented Boston producer Prism. Label-head Bakir and Rozi hold down the support slots. Advance tickets are all gone but they’ll be selling at the door. Rsvp to the FB event to find out the intimate venue’s address and set times.

Kind of a low-key weekend, by New York City standards, but holy crap did we add a lot of events for April and May. Spring is most definitely in the air – can you feel it???
GHE20G0TH1K: Venus X, $hayne, Mike Q, Jubilee, Rizzla, more at Santos Party House [10PM/$15]
Everyone’s favorite impossible to describe party takes over both floors of Santos. Always a top pick, but the special guests tonight really put this one over the top: Ballroom diety Mike Q, tropical bass and grime expert Jubilee, and certified badman / hyperriddim specialist Rizzla. Get there early if you’re going, because the line will probably be around the block. Presales are available online right up until the party.

FREETECH: M.E.S.H., Physical Therapy, Gobby, New_York_City at 45 Mott St [10PM/?]
Dark Techno in a moderately sketchy chinatown basement karaoke spot – could be just what you’re looking for. Not a lot of info on this one but everyone on the lineup is seriously talented and weird.

The Dog & Pony Show + TURRBOTAX® Present: Rolando (Osgut Ton) plus Paul Raffaele, Contakt at Output [10PM/$20]
Detroit’s Latin house legend Rolando takes over Output, bringing to bear almost two decades of innovative releases on legendary labels like Osgut Ton and Underground Resistance. With supporting DJs (and hopefully the excellent crowds as well!) from two of our favorite parties, Turrbotax and Dog & Pony Show.

PLANT MUSIC PRESENTS: Ben Mono, Soul 2 Seoul, Gavin Walker at Cameo Gallery [12AM/$10]
Ben Mono is everywhere, stylistically. His latest EP on Plant Music is a joyful take on funky, muscular house, but I’ve heard productions by him that have slayed as electro-soul, disco house, and his latest mixes are more UK Bass oriented. While a cynic could cry bandwagon, the reality is some producers just thrive on variety; and Ben Mono excels at it.

HUSH: DJ Eko, Jerry Jones at The Flat [10PM/FREE]
DJ Eko has a unique sound – she calls it Soultronica (peep the mixes) – and it’s basically the sexiest music you’ve ever heard. Or as the flyer says, “where future bass and future soul make out”. You’d be forgiven for thinking she’s just updating the lovestep formula, but Eko has been honing her sound for over a decade. Also spinning, Jerry Jones from East Village Radio.

Tonight there’s truly something for everyone. Our pick is Addison Groove at Cameo Gallery – this guy is always on the bleeding edge of bass music (and is now running a new label, LIT). As Headhunter he was my gateway to deep dubstep, and it’s incalculable how many people who got turned on to juke/footwork by his immortal tune Footcrab. Every time I see him play, he turns my brain inside out. With support from FaltyDL (whose new LP on Ninjatune is SO GOOD) and SciFi&Fantasy label head Max Pearl
If you like Breaks, then the only place to be tonight is House of Yes for VITAMIN B. They have finally booked Deekline, who is about as legendary as they come for a genre. Plus the residents Barney Iller, Tektite and Tim The Enchanter are all veteran badasses – this one is for serious dancers only (but they are opening up a second chillout room due to the huge expected turnout). Hit up ELECTRIC PUNANNY at the Paper Box tonight for a frenetic mix of dancehall, hip hop and all kinds of global bass – they’re celebrating the third installment of the mixtape series of the same name, and have OG producers Dubbel Dutch and Dre Skull.
VERBOTEN has tINI and Justin Martin at HIghline Ballroom tonight. There are a lot of Justins in house music, but none whose tunes are as funky and ubiquitous as his recent LP on Dirtybird, Ghettos and Gardens (and the two volumes of remixes it inspired). Expensive, but highline is a very nice venue and the crowd is gonna be mad hyped. Finally, if you’re looking for a weirder DIY vibe, hit up AstroNautico – they have an interesting spectrum of house music tonight from guests Braille (Praveen from Sepalcure) and some live hardware from Octa Octo. Plus the massive Tsunami Bass soundsystem (the one that powers Reconstrvct) and some very talented residents, all for just $8 with RSVP. And the space is really one of a kind (it’s a rave parking garage – no, really)
SATURDAY also has great options – the most interesting of which is definitely IDLE, put together by the Reconstrvct crew and BigUP magazine. It’s an art show featuring the work of Ashes57 (who did so much of the dope art for Outlook Festival) as well as a lineup of exceptionally talented experimental electronic music. No tickets at the door tho, so be sure to get one in advance if you want to go (secret BK location will also be annouced only to ticketholders day of). Over at Le Bain, our boys DKDS are headlining Night People – expect some serious dancefloor-oriented techno and house. Also, you may know two out of the three residents (Lloydski and Eli) from Bushwick’s finest dance party, Tiki Disco. Trust us when we say you’ll be in good hands. And for all you 90s ravers, DnB legend Photek is in the Webster Hall basement on saturday, while NinjaTune veteran DJ Vadim will be at Brooklyn Bowl for just eight bucks.
Also don’t neglect to check out all the new additions for February and March! We’ll be blessed to enjoy two more Reconstrvcts, the return of Bicep, Kyle Hall, Egyptrixx, Chrissy Murderbot, an Osgut Ton showcase at Output, a Dirtybird showcase at SRB, Turrbotax with Gerry Read and SO MUCH MORE.

See you on the floor!
Tonight has a too many good options to pick just one! Brooklyn Bass has up-n-coming outsider house producers Madteo and Anthony Naples for just $7 at Cameo! Broke City keeps it wonderfully weird in Bushwick with PICTUREPLANE plus their unusually talented residents. Webster Hall has Starkey and Nosaj Thing, two of my favorite stateside bass producers who both have a keen ear for nuance and melody despite wildly different production styles. And the first edition of Club Xero, with guest Obey City, is debuting at Tutus, a new basement club in Morgantown. Residents Strange VIP (aka The Captain of Trouble & Bass) and Lola Pistola (aka FIASCO) will be keepin things dark and trappy.
Saturday, tho, is all about the tenth installment of RECONSTRVCT at House of Yes. Headliner Indigo is unfortunately stranded in South America but they are hard at work looking for a replacement – good thing the lineup is already super-stacked: Dark Tantrums is still coming in from the UK (he’s released on Mala’s Deep Medi label and collabs with Kromestar as Team Starfleet). Also, Footwork maven Wheez-ie and .San Diego producer EshOne along with resident True Nature and Selektah Twice doing an opening Roots & Culture set. If you prefer things a little more bro-steppy, Public Assembly has N-Type, MRK-1 and Megaladon along with the Darkroom DJs
Also of note, Monday you can catch Turrbotax resident Rem Koolhaus at Night Spa, a dance party that yes, is in an actual spa. Enjoy saunas, steam rooms, and hot and cold baths while jamming to some top shelf house and techno.
Plus, don’t forget to check out all the new events added this week. Addison Groove will be playing an intimate show at Cameo Gallery on Feb 1. Drum n bass legends Photek, DJ Zinc and Goldie are playing three very different parties in the coming months, Ellen Allien and Nina Kraviz are headlining a Resolute/Blk Market double header, and it gives me great pleasure to once again list Detroit legend, DJ Dez Andres, whose set at Loreley last year was absolutely one of my favorites of 2012.

Fuck yeah! See you on the floor!
Tonight our top recommendation has to be Percussion Lab – they’re throwing a party for their first compilation, Cambio. The lineup is some of our favorite NYC talent including Braille (Praveeen of Sepalcure), Contakt (Turrbotax) and our favorite 3 piece, Archie Pelago (check their feature in XLR8R yesterday!). UK label Night Slugs is throwing their first warehouse rave in NYC, with founding members Bok Bok, Girl Unit and L-Vis 1990 plus their NYC associate, Kingdom. Advance tickets are sold out but get there at 11 for the limited door – this one will pack out and go very late.
Also tonight is GHE20 GOTH1K, the famously genre-melting party where you will hear them “play Al-Jezeera in the club, and you will like it”. Venus X and $hayne plus ballroom master MikeQ and Rizzla, whose relentless riddims will make you sweat. All black or white dress preferred. Finally if you want breaks, look no further than Vitamin B vs No Parking on the Dancefloor – this is the third annual combo party these guys have thrown, so you can expect shenanigans and nonstop booty-movin. If yr still moving after 4am, head to 440 Irving for Afters with Musa (but we didn’t tell you).
And that’s just tonight! SATURDAY, dnb heads are in for a treat with the legends AK-1200 and Gridlock at SRB. Discovery Party is always a good time, and they have detroit legend Mike Huckaby at Glasslands. Lots of funky house, boogie and disco. And over at 285 Kent, Sweater Beats, Branchez, Slava and Jaw Jam will be playing some slowed, sexy, eclectic, futuristic r&b-influenced productions.
But hold your horses, because I hear there’s a MASSIVE Trouble & Bass vs. Mixpak warehouse rave happening at 1040 Metropolitan Saturday, going very very late. The lineup will be dropping in the next 24 hours but you can trust that it’s a doozy, featuring allstars from both crews.

Fuck yeah! See you on the floor!
Just wanna give a massive shout out to the fine folks at Turrbotax and Discovery for bringing out Andrés aka DJ Dez on Saturday. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a DJ that good. 2 tracks in, I realized I was putty in his hands. FLAWLESS mixing, inspired selections, perfect pacing, some exquisitely tasteful scratching, all in the pursuit of a higher groove. And oh boy did we find it. Walked out of there feeling just ELATED.
Anyway, I’ve had these jams on loop pretty much since I got home that night, reliving the glory. You know it was a good show when yr still basking in the glow 2 days later.
Just Added:
Sunday, July 8th:
Dark Disco with Flosstradamus, Nick Hook, Pase Rock [6PM/$15]
Saturday, July 14th

Friday, July 20th:
Kingdom (Fade To Mind, Nightslugs) Added to Sleepyhead “Endless Island” EP release ft Kastle, Sleepyhead, Dunes, Figgy [10PM/$15]
METROPOLIS at Love ft. RONI SIZE
Roni Size is pretty much the godfather of Drum n Bass. If you’re reading this blog, you’ve heard his shit. Go see him rip it up on Love’s uber soundsystem with the whole Bass Fueled Mischief crew – Hellfire Machina (who have been absolutely crushing it with their Headspace parties), Code of Arms, Odi and Morphous – holding it down.
Git yr tix here. This is TONIGHT!!!!
CASSETTENYC at the Paul Robeson Theatre
Cassette is a uniquely awesome party. Pseudo-monthly, and held at a different unsexy Brooklyn venue each time, the residents include big names like Machine Drum, Lando Kal (of LazerSword), Eliot Lipp and Praveen (who isn’t a big name afaik but deserves his props cuz he holds it down with the crew).
This time around, they have the very savvy addition of Mike Slott and FaltyDL – who’ve both put out music on such uberhip labels as Planet Mu, Ramp and Hotflush.
What makes Cassette really awesome, though, is how all the DJs tag team, song after song. There’s usually 2 tables with 3 or 4 DJs with laptops and a gaggle of midi controllers and cables – from this techy stew arises a relentlessly danceable mash of original productions, exclusive shit, big tchunes and throwback jamz. Bring your outta-town friends, and tell them you’re takin em to the coolest party in Brooklyn – because you are.
Shakey’s Record Fair at Public Assembly
Take a day off from partying and wobble, and go check out this record fair and party. 7PM to 2AM, so you 9-5ers can come too!
They wrote it up pretty damn good over at the Dubspot Blog, so I’m just gonna quote them:
“Dubspot friend, veteran NYC DJ, and founder of theWarper Party, Julie Covello, aka DJ Shakey, is hosting one of her renowned record fairs on May 9th. Be sure to stop by, roll up your sleeves, and dig through some dog-eared gems, just like those hero’s of yours did before all this DVS digital-DJing craziness.
Sponsored by Dubspot, Wax Poetics, Turntable Lab,Cine Noir Film Society“
First lady of Bass on a Funktion 1 system? Jesus christ on a bicycle, this one is a fucking no-brainer before I even mention that it’s FREE and there’s a FREE OPEN BAR. And the legendary astral-traveler Francois K will be on decks as well, as it is Deep Space.
