Dirtybird founder Claude VonStroke and core member J.Phlip will bring their trademark bouncey, funky house music to the typically techno-leaning Verboten party. I caught J.Phlip at a Trouble & Bass party a few months back and she is a hell of a fuckin DJ. Verboten posted set times – Greenhaven opens from 11 to 12:30, then J.Phip till 2am, which means VonStroke potentially gets a FOUR HOUR set?! Bonkers.

Brooklyn’s premier breaks party brings out DJ Icey, a legend of Miami Bass. The residents will throw down their tasty mix of nu-funk, breaks, bassline house and midtempo party music. LIT CITY RAVE: Kelela (LP Release), Dance System, J-Cush, Durban, special guests at 285 Kent [11PM/$12]
Lit City headliner this month is RnB vocalist Kelela, celebrating her new LP on Fade to Mind. Listen to the whole thing here – her sinuous vocals doin great things over futuristic club tracks from the absurdly talented Night Slugs/Fade To Mind fam. Plus Dance System, a night slugs founders’ high tempo, workout inspired club constructions, a special guest, and the massively talented residents Durban and J-Cush. Lit City never disappoints.

Bonobo (FULL LIVE BAND) at Terminal 5 [7PM/SOLD OUT]
Bonobo’s full live band is not to be missed. Check this video, an opening medley of old and new favorites featuring live strings, horns and Simon himself banging out beats on the MPC. Shit gives me CHILLS, every time. Unsurprisingly this is a sold out show, but there’s plenty of folks hocking tix on craigslist and the facebook if you’ve got the mettle.

ECHO CHAMBER: Roommate (SF), Digitaldubs (Brazil), Chuk Le Garcon, 187 Sound at The Paper Box [9PM/$15-20]
Another high grade lineup from the Dub-Stuy crew. San Franciscan Roommate has been putting out futuristic dub, and rootsy dubstep for 10 years now as himself, half of Babylon System and via the many labels he’s helped to run. Check out his mix of all original productions featuring legendary vocalists like Sizzla, Daddy Freddy and Dub-Stuy veteran Brother Culture. Joining him is Brazillian sound system crew Digitaldubs, live hop hop beats from Chuk Le Garcon, and newly minted Dub Stuy resident 187sound.

Bonobo (DJ Set), Alex English, special guests at Slake [10PM/$15-20]
If you missed the early live show, you can still catch Bonobo throwing down a DJ set at the official afterparty later that night. The man is a truly, truly excellent DJ, keeping things on a general jazzy house tip but with plenty of marvelous curveballs and his own productions as well.
