Weekend Womp Forecast!

Locked Feat. Distal, Jubilee, Star Eyes free open bar rbma embassy trouble & bass fade to mind mixpak at SRB Brooklyn
FRIDAY MARCH 8
LOCKED: Distal, Jubilee, Rizzla at SRB [10PM/FREE]
Our highest recommendation for the evening. Celebrating the venue’s 1st birthday (open bar at 10!) as well as the release of Jubilee + Star Eyes’ grime mixtape LOCKED (which is fucking awesome). Distal is up from Atlanta (though we’ll be seeing a lot of him in May, as he’s RBMA Class of ’13). Distal has a supreme understanding of heavy club sounds, evidenced by his own production, his slaytastic live mixes as well as the output of his label, Embassy. And Rizzla ALWAYS throws down a hot mix of relentless, ravey riddims. And all of this goes down FOR FREE at SRB – a great club with KILLER sound in the relative middle of nowhere (Gowanus), allowing them to go way past 4am.

Osgut Ton Night with Ben Klock, Ryan Elliot and David Favela at Output [10PM/$20]
The Berghain-inspired label showcases at the Berghain-inspired club. Cosmic.

SATURDAY MARCH 9

DISCOVERY: Steve Summers, Archie Pelago, Bookworms, Will Eastman plus Free Magic & Faso at Glasslands [11:30PM/$10]
Discovery has just been getting better and better. The dance party, run by Free Magic & Faso, is firmly rooted in disco but is constantly exploring the boundaries and intersections of genre (not unlike the way Deep space explores the outer reaches of Dub). The month they bring us another killer lineup, headlined by Steve Summers and Bookworms, coming together as CONFUSED HOUSE – check out this live mix from Cameo gallery to get a taste of their ultra-smooth, sultry, classic house sound. Also playing, our homies Archie Pelago, who are on a hot streak of singles and remixes, will be doing their live cello-sax-turntable thing. Rounding out the bill is Will Eastman, a founder and resident at Bliss, DC’s longest running (13 years!) indy dance party.

BICEP plus Paul Raffaele, JDH & Dave P at Le Poisson Rouge [11PM/$10]
A duo that pretty much defines muscular house, BICEP returns to LPR this saturday courtesy of another fave party of ours, Dog and Pony Show. Check out their recent broadcast for Rinse.fm and start getting excited – their last NYC show was basically a riot.

DARK DISCO: Untold, JETS (Jimmy Edgar + Machine Drum), Girraffage, DKDS at 88 Palace [11PM/$15]
MeanRed puts together an ultra sexy lineup of forward-thinking bass producers, with enough headliners for 3 shows. Get there early for our favorite residents ever, DKDS, opening things up with dark, funky house and techno.

TUESDAY MARCH 12

DEEPER: Rx, Nate Mars plus Rozi, Blysk, Bakir at National Underground [7PM/FREE]
Heavy bass and deep vibes from two dubspot veterans. Deeper has been steadily building a really dedicated community over the last year. They just graduated to a nicer venue, and the bookings keep getting better, reflecting a sharp ear for the best in deep dubstep and future bass.

THURSDAY MARCH 14

Ta-Ku, B.Lewis, Figgy at 285 Kent [8PM/$12]
Ta-Ku is one of my favorite contemporary beatmakers, equally deft with dusty boom-bap and creative twists on future-rnb/trap styles. B.Lewis is at the forefront of futurefunk, and Figgy is one of the most reliable new names in fresh house production. All 3 have a great sense of groove and tremendous versatility, so you can pretty much count on dancing your ass off here.
