To ring in the summer proper, On the Sly is bringing some island vibes to Manhattan in May. Globetrotting Jillionaire is coming off an incredibly successful 2011 and has primed himself to further elevate the Tropical Bass sound in 2012. Holding it down for Mad Decent, his sets are eclectic and free from tempo constraints, but they always have that island feel. Be on the lookout for his new label, Feel Up Recordings, as his honed ear will release and promote the most exciting sounds in Tropical Bass.
Next up is Dre Skull, the man behind Mixpak Records out of Brooklyn. Mixpak has established themselves as another outlet not contained to a single genre, releasing everything from dancehall to funky house, hip hop to baltimore club. As a producer, Dre Skull is the riddim behind vocalists like Vybz Kartel and Popcaan, and will be releasing a track with Beenie Man later this month; sure to turn into a summer anthem. Expect an eclectic set rooted in the dancehall sound.
To round out the bill, we have to have a local friend, and this time around its Dunes out of Brooklyn. Dunes is the man behind the Broke City party which also boasts residents Sleepyhead (OTS alumni) and Mess Kid. Currently shopping his tunes, expect some official releases later this year. At our recommendation, you should get familiar before that even goes down.
…and as always, knomad will be rinsing the sounds that you’ve come to expect from the bearded riddim purveyor. Dutty vibes ina di place.
