I love it when electronic musicians and classical strings do live shit together. Amon Tobin and the Kronos Quartet. Portishead live at Roseland. London Philharmonic’s “Video Game Heroes”.
But Benji B just took things to a whole other level. Along with the Deviation String Quartet (and masterful arrangement by Grant Windsor) they augmented a number of modern UK Bass hits with luscious strings. Then all of them performed it for together for RBMA. This sort of project could easily veer into cheese, but you can tell there’s a lot of craft and mutual respect between all the players here. Check the whole video below (it’s worth it) or watch select clips on their blog. Not gonna attempt a tracklist here, but you’ll hear tunes you love from Joy O, M. J. Cole, Joker, Switch, Erykah Badu, Burial and many more.
Hat tip to the always onpoint HZA at 92bpm for first posting this.
