DJ Madd, one of Europe’s leading dubstep selectors, bringing you 43 minutes of rootsy, dubwise tunes. Horns a plenty, guitar upstrokes, bouncy basslinesĀ and just the right amount of vocals keep the vibes uplifting. There’s hot tunes of the moment (Badman City) alongside modern classics (Goth-trad’s Cut End or Caspa & Rusko’s King George). The mix finishes off with Mungo’s HifiĀ – International Roots (LD Remix) a perfect example of the “Roots & Future” aesthetic – lacing lovely vocals and organic, syncopated drums with just a touch of purple synths. With any luck, this will be the first of many more installments to this series, as it’s one of my favorite directions in the dubstep diaspora.
Hungarian-born but now based in the UK, Madd has been cranking out quality releases on venerated labels like Osiris, Black Box and Wheel & Deal since ’08, and has been a staple on the festival circuit for the last several years.
