A new mixtape from Plastic Thumbs is always a cause for celebration (and bloggin). This time around, they’ve ostensibly put together a hip-hop and funk mix, but with “a few basslines thrown in”. The effect is hyphy-producing, in the extreme. You’ve got all the standards of hip hop, funk and soul classics, seamlessly blended with some UK Bass treats. No tracklist provided, but a few of my favorite moments would have to be:
– Public Enemy over Congorock’s Babylon
– a severely screwed Brick House over some tropical house i can’t identify,
– Wiley’s Too Many Men freestyle over disco classic Roll, Bounce, Rock, Skate
but [SPOILER ALERT] the real gem of a party starter here is WHOOMP, There It Is on top of Redlight’s Source 16 – two legendary party jams, cruelly separated by decades, finally united. Had me dancin around in my underwear while making breakfast this morning.
