If there’s one name that’s been knocking my socks off this week, it’s Anstam. If you like King Cannibal, or Amon Tobin’s darker, more drum-n-bass flavored antics, you’ll flip your shit over Anstam. They’re a mysterious duo from Berlin, and have been putting out a few tracks a year since ’07. Modeselektor smartly snapped them up on their 50 Weapons label. Here’s an intro to the madness, Baldwin, a single that came out on 50Weapons ealier this year. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/16702104″]
Full length LP just dropped on 50Weapons too, cop it here or preview the whole thing on the official Anstam site. I haven’t listened to the whole album, but the clips are tremendously promising.
Probably via the Modeselektor connection, they did an official remix for a little band called Radiohead that came out on the TKOL remix album. Utterly fantastic, and a bit friendlier than their other productions. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/27565901″]
Finally, Anstam did a mix for FACT magazine last month, and it’s absolutely riveting. The first act is a dark jungle tour-de-force, and builds into a breakcore crescendo that had me BUGGIN in my cubicle. But then it cools off with a second act of lovely, brooding ambient, before burrowing back into the land of the darkest dubs, and beyond. Around the 20 minute mark, a ultraheavy 3am-Dub-War vibe starts building, and doesn’t let up until the last note. [soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/23462177″]
