****UPDATE****
Event has been MOVED to the basement at Tammany Hall on the Lower East Side – it will no longer be at Loreley.
Gotta just talk about Chrissy Murderbot for a second. Machine Drum and Sepalcure have had lots of words devoted to them, which you can find at your friendly neighborhood google. And Mister Moombah I don’t know anything about. So back to Chrissy.
Chrissy Murderbot came on to my radar, leviathan style, in late 2009, about halfway through his unfathomably epic My Year of Mixtapes project. I really could not believe what I was seeing, the scope was so vast; a different mix every week, for a year, focusing on the definitive tracks and formative years of a regional subgenre. Check out this one, on NY Garage and you’ll start to understand.
It’s no exaggeration to say (and XLR8R did) that he’s a “walking encyclopedia of the last 30 years of dance music.” Yea, and verily; I learned more about the history of dance music from that blog than I did from taking a college course on it. Now Murderbot is leading the charge forward with his Loose Squares label, chock full of high quality juke/footwork (or “uptempo, forward-thinking booty music”, as he much more precisely calls it).
Check the mix below, and get your ass out to this free party on Monday. Also streaming live at percussionlab.com, if you can’t make it in person.
